Pikes Peak in Colorado is the most visited mountain in North America and the second most visited mountain in the world behind Japan's Mount Fuji. Over a half million people reach the summit house every year. Since 1891, The Manitou and Pikes Peak Railway has taken passengers to the 14,110 foot summit of Pikes Peak. The round trip lasts for 3 hours and 10 minutes and you must return on the same train that you went up on.

There are three ways to travel to the top of Pikes Peak; the Manitou and Pikes Peak Railway Cog train 8.9 mile trip or drive up the mountain in your personal vehicle. The 19-mile Pikes Peak Highway, only paved part of the way, is open year round, weather permitting. About 15,000 people a year attempt to climb Pikes Peak on foot. The 13-mile trail begins at the base of Pikes Peak in Manitou Springs. The Cog train is still the best and easiest way to go!

You start at the Cog Train Station and board the train that takes you up the side of the mountain to the summit. There are morning and afternoon schedules. Here is the schedule information that can be changed at anytime:

The Summit of Pikes Peak is what you see at the Summit House. Unbelievable views can be seen for miles around the top in any direction.

Some days, the view may be hazy and other times it is clear. Just make the best of your trip to the summit.

The Cog train is the easiest way to see the sights. Just leave the driving to them! There is a layover where you can visit the gift shop or eat in their restaurant on the top

Some of the rock formations are really unusual. These rocks have been in these positions for ages! You will see these sights going up and down on the Cog train.

There are a surprising amount of vegetation, bushes and trees growing among the rocks. The trees are thicker as you go down the mountain to Manitou Springs.
